Cutting Through the Noise: What Our AI Really Does (and What Others Just Say It Does)

By David Lee, Product Manager at Intelligent Banking Solutions

In my last post, I talked about the “everyday wins” inside SAFIRE-IQ — features like document attachments and single sign-on that remove daily frustrations. But today I want to zoom out and talk about something bigger: how we position ourselves against competitors who are suddenly claiming to be “AI-powered.”

If you’ve been to a conference recently or browsed industry websites, you’ve seen the headlines: AI for Collections. Smarter Collections with AI. Virtual Collectors. It sounds impressive — until you take a closer look.

The Problem: Marketing Claims vs. Real Capability

Too often, competitors are slapping the letters “AI” on features that don’t actually involve artificial intelligence. For example:

  • A payment portal rebranded as a “virtual collector.”
  • Pre-scheduled outbound text messages described as “AI-driven communication.”
  • Vague promises about automation with no visibility into what the system actually does.

These are useful tools, but they’re not AI. They don’t analyze data, adapt, or take intelligent action.

The Difference with SAFIRE-IQ

When we say Carmen is AI-powered, we mean it. Here’s how:

  • Plain Language to SQL – Carmen translates natural language requests into working SQL statements that run inside the system. That’s real intelligence, not just a preset template.
  • Agentic AI – Instead of just giving instructions, Carmen can act — creating queues, generating configurations, and previewing results before implementation.
  • Next-Best-Action Guidance – Carmen analyzes account history and recommends the best step for a collector to take, tailored to that customer’s patterns.

These aren’t marketing buzzwords. They’re tangible features our clients can see, use, and measure today.

Why Transparency Matters

Collections managers and compliance officers deserve clarity. If a system claims to be “AI-powered,” you should be able to see exactly how it works and how it improves outcomes.

That’s why we put Carmen front and center. We want users to interact with her directly, test her capabilities, and see the results for themselves.

Looking Ahead

Competitors can market their products however they want. At Intelligent Banking Solutions, our goal is to prove value by showing—not just telling.

In my next post, I’ll tackle a question that often comes up when people hear about Carmen: “Is AI going to replace collectors?” Spoiler alert: the answer is no. In fact, AI makes collectors more effective, not obsolete.
